Portugal Attempts to Attract Digital Nomads Through Its Recent Campaign

Portugal’s Cascais Tourism Association has introduced a promotional campaign in order to attract digital nomads.

The campaign called “It Works for you” also includes a promotional video that talks about remote work combined with leisure as well as lifestyle, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

“Through this campaign, Cascais invites all digital nomads looking for an out-of-door destination to enjoy the ‘magical’ conditions for working and a lifestyle that balances work with a constant feeling of vacation,” the association notes.

The campaign has been projected by the Cascais Tourism Association in order to promote the country as a favorable destination for all persons interested in remote work while emphasizing the offer of coworking spaces available in Cascais.

Portugal is among the favorite European countries for freelancers as well as self-employed persons.

Thus, internationals interested in a visa that allows long-term residence as well as permissions to earn a living in Europe chose Portugal to live and work from this country.

However, all persons interested in living and working in Portugal will be required to meet specific conditions.

Authorities in Portugal have clarified that applicants interested in such a visa have two possibilities:

  • A residence for persons interested in working in an independent way (working locally for Portugal’s clients as a contract employee)
  • A residence visa for entrepreneur work (digital nomad visa gathering clients from other countries)

Based on the data provided by the World Bank, in 2019, a total of 16.9 per cent of people in Portugal are self-employed workers or freelancers. Such data show that the figures are higher in Portugal compared to the EU average of 15.2 per cent.

The number of persons interested in remote work is continuously increasing while many European countries are offering such visas in order to bring to their country a more significant number of internationals and also help their economic sectors recover from the damages caused by the Coronavirus and its new strains.

However, internationals interested in freelance visas and digital nomad visas offered by authorities in the countries mentioned above are advised to carefully follow the rules after the requirement to obtain such a visa differs among these countries.
